Hirsutism

Hirsutism is a condition of abnormal hair growth which in women can be characterized by excessive growth on all body areas, but can be especially prominent on the face, including the upper lip and chin. Other areas of concern to women is hair growth on the breasts, lower abdomen, and dark, heavy growth on arms and legs. Some women have a natural, familial inheritance for having more heavy growth of hair, but in others, the growth may be due to hormonal fluctuations associated with excessive testosterone production.

Because hirsutism can be very embarrassing, many women opt to use waxing and electrolysis as a means to treat it. However, my patients found these methods time consuming, painful, and slow. With the introduction of new technology, hair removal can now be safe, effective, and permanently reduced with our state-of-the-art lasers for FDA approved methods of permanent hair reduction, and those who have tried it are amazed at the fast, easy way in which it works.

As a gynecologist treating women with a variety of problems, I found that adding this to my practice was a natural way of enhancing a woman's sense of well-being and confidence. In the past, I had to refer my patients to others who may have offered ineffectual, expensive hair removal, and now, I am pleased to have found a method that I am proud to offer as I know personally that it works. We always advise that you schedule a complimentary consultation with my Certified Clinical Technician/Aesthetician, for a complete analysis of your needs. We advise that all threading, tweezing, bleaching, waxing, and tanning be discontinued for at least 6 weeks prior to the procedure, so fall and winter are perfect times to prepare for the summer months of bathing suits.

As a physician, I have seen many women shaving the axillary and bikini areas, resulting in folliculitis, or inflammation of the hair follicle. Once the follicle is destroyed with the laser, then this condition cannot be a problem anymore. Folliculitis can occur anywhere that you have unwanted hair growth that needs to be removed. As a woman myself, I want to know that I won't have to worry about unwanted hair growth. My sister and I can distinctly recall visiting my grandmother and bringing tweezers to pluck out her chin hairs. None of us should have to be embarrassed in this way, and it is wonderful that technology has advanced enough to help us in this regard.
